Dear Chief Beck,

Re: LAPD Leak of Confession Letter in the Murder of Rapper Tupac Shakur
IA: CF NO 14-001995

I wish the circumstances behind writing this letter were different. I was in the audience at the downtown Rotary meeting where you filled-in for Connie Rice, while she was delayed and I became a big fan of the transformation inside of LAPD that you and Connie have led. I have often said that meeting was the single best Rotary meeting I ever attended – keep in mind that I was a Rotarian for a decade.

I am writing to you today about the leak of the Confession Letter to the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur and attempted murder of Suge Knight, given to LAPD’s Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese, Commander Kevin McCarthy, Captain William Hayes and Detective Daryn Dupree on June 24th, 2014. The first leak occurred on July 7, 2014 by Daryn Dupree’s former partner, Greg Kading. The full letter appeared on August 18th, 2014 and six days later Suge Knight was shot in a West Hollywood nightclub by shooters that said as they shot, “you killed Tupac.”

We have LAPD cold on the leak. RJ Bond placed a special border on the letter and when the leaked letter appeared it was with that special border. A year ago, Russell Poole and RJ Bond filed IA: CF NO 14-001995 – an Internal Affairs Complaint about the letter.

I wrote to you on January 9th and June 28th and have not had a response. I would request that you officially respond to this email and certified letter to let me know the disposition of that investigation.

Many in the community have warned me that my life is now in danger. Recently Reggie Wright Jr. threatened RJ Bond on a YouTube Interview. He said, “it’s not over with me and Mister Bond… If I can take out Biggie or Tupac he shouldn’t be no (sic) problem.” RJ Bond, Russell Poole, and I were not the source of the information that blames Reggie Wright for the killing of Tupac Shakur – LAPD was the clear source of this information when they leaked the Confession Letter and thereby derailed the investigation.

Reggie Wright Jr. is listed by the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD as a suspect in the murder of Christopher Wallace in court documents I obtained in the Wallace Civil Trial and he is the suspect the Confession Letter says plotted the hit on Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur. He also happens to be a friend of Greg Kading who again is Daryn Dupree’s ex-partner. Reggie Wright Jr. is a former Compton Police Officer and son of former Compton Police Officer and LA County Sheriff, Reggie Wright Sr. Many people fear Reggie Wright Jr. because of his strong ties into law enforcement (he hired all the off-duty police for Death Row Records).

It gets even more convoluted as Cle “Bone” Sloan – the star witness in the current Suge Knight murder trial worked with Daryn Dupree on the movie “End of Watch.” Why was someone so connected to suspects, in charge of the Tupac and Biggie cases? Was this just an oversight? Or was it intentional?

Kevin Hackie says he handed the Glock .40 that had been ballistics tested by the FBI to Reggie Wright Jr. and he further says that gun was subsequently used to kill rapper Tupac Shakur. Bodyguard Michael Moore was taken off of guarding Tupac Shakur the night of the shooting because he refused Reggie’s order to disarm. Reggie kept Moore close to him at the time of the shooting and Moore tells of hearing, “Got ‘em” come over Wright’s radio when Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight were shot. The letter supports this evidence and tells that the triggerman, Lil ½ Dead (Donald Smith) had the motive of revenge as a reason to kill Tupac Shakur. On Lil ½ Dead’s 2012 album cover for “Dead Serious” you can see an image of the slain Tupac Shakur.

Let’s give LAPD the benefit of the doubt. If the Confession Letter was inadvertently handed to a Detective not friendly with the suspect in the murder it would have received a proper investigation. All of those allegedly involved would have been pulled in for questioning and Chris Blatchford, who gave us the letter, would have been contacted and interviewed about the origins of that letter. Valuable time and opportunities have been lost because of the LAPD leak. But there is still hope that LAPD will, in the end, do the right thing even though it leads to further entanglements.

While pouring over the thousands of pages of case files, in writing the book, Tupac:187, we uncovered that Officer Kevin Gaines (boyfriend of Sharitha Knight who according to the author of the letter was also behind the murders) was on special assignment for LAPD in Las Vegas on the night that Tupac and Suge were shot. Frank Lyga has stated publicly that Kevin Gaines’ murder was a sanctioned “hit” by LAPD. Clearly there were several LAPD Officers in Las Vegas that night and uncovering LAPD involvement in the attempted murder of Suge Knight and murder of Tupac Shakur could prove embarrassing to the department but leaking the letter to avoid that embarrassment and covering up that leak will be far more damaging.

We simply want the TRUTH wherever that leads!

You were not the Police Chief during the Rampart Scandal Era. Anything that was done then cannot be blamed on you. You have led a sweeping transformation at LAPD and I applaud those efforts. It is now time for total transparency in the leak of this Confession letter and it is time to re-examine all of the corrupt officers during the Rampart era to air their dirty laundry and if possible bring them to justice. If they participated in the murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace they should be held accountable. If they participated in the attempted murder of Suge Knight they should be held accountable. If there were sanctioned “hits” by LAPD officers everybody involved should be held accountable.

Los Angeles is the most diverse community that has ever existed. Honor that diversity by solving these crimes and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Tupac and Biggie Fans constantly say that if the artists were white no stone would have been unturned to bring the killers to justice. It is hard to argue with those fans when it appears LAPD is stonewalling the investigation.

You are aware that the first civil trial in the wrongful death suit of Christopher Wallace was ruled a mistrial when it was discovered that LAPD had withheld thousands of pages of documents that implicated off duty LAPD officers in the murder. You are aware the testimony of Ya May Cristle implicates LAPD in destroying thousands of documents that point to LAPD involvement in the murder of Christopher Wallace. You are also aware that the testimony of Waymond Anderson that derailed the second civil trial was coerced as documents were snuck in for him to review for the case and his testimony was coached. Are we to believe that LAPD had no involvement in rapper Tupac Shakur’s Murder?

Please examine the clues we have uncovered since the publishing of the book and the clues that continue to pour in. Please help protect those, whose lives are now in danger because of the leak of the Confession Letter in the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Many people who were witnesses or sought the truth are now dead but the truth is seeping out and it cannot be stopped.

Both Russell Poole and I are your partners in bringing the killers to justice. Russell has 19 years with the department and has a very good handle on what steps are necessary to get indictments and convictions. We have posted a snapshot of the relevant information here:

I have been told that the information in the murder of Mickey Thompson was not near as compelling as this information and that led to a conviction that withstood an appeal. These cases can be solved and the perpetrators can be brought to justice.

I look forward to seeing this through to a positive conclusion.

All the best,

Statement at The Police Commission About Tupac:187

Michael Douglas Carlin, Author of TUPAC:187
Statement at The Police Commission
1/27/2015

I recently collaborated with former LAPD Homicide Detective Russell Poole and RJ Bond on a book, Tupac:187. We poured over 15,000 pages of case files. LAPD has a tremendous opportunity to break with the past and come clean about corruption that once existed within the department. The Rampart Scandal rocked the City of Los Angeles when it was learned that off-duty cops participated in bank robberies, cocaine distribution, and worked off-duty for Death Row Records. When evidence began to surface that off-duty cops participated in the murder of rapper Christopher Wallace the LAPD and City of Los Angeles participated in a COVER-UP. Now Internal Affairs Case IA: CF NO 14-001995 into the LAPD leak of a confession letter in the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur by a Detective that has ties directly to the suspect implicated in that letter deserves to be fully investigated. Los Angeles has the best leadership ever assembled with Eric Garcetti, Mike Feuer, and Ron Galperin. Police Chief Charlie Beck has been part of the transformation to uproot corruption inside of LAPD and he must continue until all of the residue of the Rampart Scandal is swept out. Los Angeles Sheriff Jim McDonnell is also a no-nonsense partner to uproot corruption. Now I would simply ask that the City of Los Angeles and Law Enforcement treat the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace seriously by appointing someone as the lead detective that doesn’t have a cozy relationship with the main suspect in both murders. Come Clean with the past by exposing all of the previous corruption to sweep it out and establish Los Angeles as the model for all police departments throughout the world.

Tupac:187 May Hold Key To Suge Knight's Freedom

Suge Knight is due back in court on January 27th, 2015. The information contained in Tupac:187 may hold the key to Suge Knight's Freedom. LAPD leaked a confession letter to the attempted murder of Knight and murder of rapper Tupac Shakur when they should have investigated it.

The confession letter was given to Fox 11's Chris Blatchford in 1998. At that time, law enforcement was not interested in the letter. Recently that letter was entrusted to former LAPD Detective Russell Poole. On June 24th, 2014 Russell Poole and RJ Bond (Tupac Assassination Director) visited LAPD and met with four officers. One of those officers had direct ties back to a suspect in the Biggie Smalls Murder that was also mentioned as a suspect in the confession letter. Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese promised Poole and Bond that the confession letter would be handled responsibly and not end up on the streets. On August 18th that letter was leaked and ended up on the streets. Six days later Suge Knight was shot in a West Hollywood nightclub. One witness said that the shooter screamed, "You killed Tupac" as he fired shots at Knight.

Suge Knight would have a potential lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles if it was discovered that the letter led to him being shot on the 24th. But Suge also has a cause of action against the City of Los Angeles because they failed to investigate fully the letter for the attempted murder of Suge Knight in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. The letter and Chris Blatchford's statement (both are published in Tupac:187) indicate that the conspiracy to murder Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight began in Los Angeles.

LAPD is currently investigating the leak of the confession letter in IA: CF NO. 14-001995. The current lead investigator in the Christopher Wallace homicide is tied directly back to one of the suspects in the murder. When the letter was received he should have recused himself from the investigation. Instead the letter was leaked and an attempt was made to dismiss and discredit it. LAPD has a history of handing the Christopher Wallace case to Detectives with direct ties to this suspect. Perhaps the time has come for a new face on the investigation as well as the investigation of rapper Tupac Shakur's murder. If the conspiracy to commit Tupac's murder began in Los Angeles then LAPD has jurisdiction in the case. At the time of the murder Death Row Records was based in Los Angeles.

LAPD's sloppy handling of the letter may give Suge Knight the leverage he needs to negotiate a plea arrangement leading to his freedom. Knight's attorney, James Blatt did not return a telephone call inquiring about this case.

Shooter of Suge Knight May Have Been Hired by Same Person Behind Tupac Shakur Killing

Read Russell Poole's final words on #Tupac & #Biggie murders

By Michael Douglas Carlin

Some of the details of the Suge Knight shooting have been surfacing. It appears that Suge Knight was the target of the shooting. Keith Middlebrook said, "Two gang members showed up and accused Suge of killing Tupac and called him a traitor. I think they were two guys from Compton. They yelled at Suge, 'You killed Tupac.'"

This is consistent with the premise of the previous article. Why would the shooters mention Tupac? Were they trying to tie Suge to the Tupac killing to steer the investigation away from those responsible for the murder? Clearly Suge would never have put himself in the driver's seat when his passenger was going to be killed. This was clearly a plot to kill both Tupac and Suge and to take Death Row Records and the associated revenue away from Suge and steal Tupac's music. But Suge didn't die back then and he didn't die this time either.

The evidence seems to always point back to Compton. Who ran the Compton Police? Who has deep ties into the Compton Gangs? Quite possibly the shooter(s) in the most recent attempt to kill Suge Knight were hired by the very same people that were behind the killing of Tupac Shakur.

The truth is going to surface. Tupacileaks has received 1000 pages of documents. On December 1st all of this will be released to the public. The pursuit of the truth is underway.

LAPD Leaks Confession Letter In Tupac’s Murder That Might Be Reason Suge Knight Shot?
I just want to begin by saying that I don’t know any of the details of the shooting last night. It seems that getting specific details has been tough from typical news sources.

But I do find it curious that on August 18th a website posts a confession letter, leaked by the Los Angeles Police Department, which gets 6000 views. The letter was given to LAPD by Russell Poole and RJ Bond two months ago and was leaked by someone in the department. The Confession Letter alleges that Reggie Wright Jr. contracted gangs to kill both Tupac and Suge Knight on the night of September 7th 1996. Early this morning on the 24th, just six days after the letter leaks publicly, Suge Knight is allegedly shot six times.

For those of you that don’t know the history I will recap. Suge Knight and Tupac are shot while driving from Suge Knight’s home in Las Vegas to Club 662 on the night of September 7th 1996. Suge is injured in the shooting but walks away. Tupac is shot four times and is given a 50%/50% chance of survival but is only able to hold on for a few days. He dies on September 13, 1996. Michael Moore, a former Tupac bodyguard, tells of standing right next to Reggie Wright at the time of the shooting and hearing, “Got ‘em” come over Wright’s radio. If the confession letter is right and this was an attempt on Suge’s life, there would have to be a cover-up. People that knew about the plot would have to be silenced or killed.

When you look at the shootings in the immediate aftermath of the Tupac slaying, they mostly involved people that might have known something about the murder from Yafeu Fula to Orlando Anderson and many in-between. When you look at the next wave of killings just before Suge was released from prison it involved Suge's inner-circle: Buntry, Heron, Poochie, and Hen Dog. Seems that someone was trying to make sure that Suge was unable to pull together muscle to resume his reign.

"I have a picture that I took of all of the guys. One night we were doing a video shoot... and it was Suge and all of his henchmen. And all the henchmen are dead today. Every one of 'em is dead; Suge is the only one alive. So those were his friends. And if you really think about it you'll be like, Hmmm, that's kinda weird." - Simone Green to AllHipHopDX - December 2011

If there is any truth to the confession letter the killing of Tupac and attempt on Suge’s life may have been kept from Suge for years. Six days ago a puzzle piece emerged that says Suge was in the crosshairs the night Tupac was murdered. In the immediate aftermath of the Shakur killing and Knight’s incarceration for a probation violation, there was total chaos at Death Row Records. Equipment, furniture, motorcycles, cars, and master tapes were disappearing. Once Reggie Wright was put in charge all of the chaos ended.

Details of the shooting last night are not yet available I would hope that the confession letter would be fully investigated by law enforcement. I would also hope that all relevant documents can be released to the public instead of leaked to stall the investigation.

There is a rash of violence tied to Tupac’s murder including the slaying of Biggie Smalls on March 9, 1997. The similarity of the murders is compelling. There are two differences that stand out. The Tupac slaying was a wide pattern of bullets (bullets hit all over the car) with regular bullets being used. The Biggie killing is the same type of drive-by with a relatively tight pattern (bullets hit Biggie’s door) and armor-piercing GECO rounds used seeming to indicate that this hit was done professionally. The shootings are identical except for an experience modification. If the same people planned both murders, they would have learned something valuable from Tupac’s killing substituting a shooter that spent time shooting for accuracy as well as adding armor piercing ammunition to better pierce the car.

The family of Biggie Smalls sued LAPD and the City of Los Angeles claiming that LAPD officers participated in the killing of Biggie Smalls. A mistrial was declared when it was learned that thousands of documents had been withheld in the discovery process by LAPD. Now LAPD has leaked a document that could be the Rosetta stone to solving the case.

Here is the error-ridden leaked confession letter: There was a major problem with demo stilling. 2 song’s that 2 pac came out with were written by little half dead. little half dead was a up and coming rap singer. He gave 4 demo’s to 2 pac to look over, because he meat 2 pac at the bonavenchur Hotel. 2 pac promised that he would look over the demo’s. little half dead never heard from 2 pac, and 3 months later, after 2 pac revised the demo’s the song brenda’s got a baby was released. Brenda’s got a baby was written by little half dead. little half dead let that slide. But he continued to go to different recording studios. Finally in 94 little half dead started making money. And he was sponsord mostly by Sh Night. What Night did not know was that little half dead found out that he was being sold to Priority 1. There was a meeting in Reno. And little half dead and 2 pac had dispute about song’s that were taken. little half dead was beaten down by 2 pac Soldiers. As day’s went by there was meeting’s with ICG – gear gang – ghost town – front street – 52 - A Try hoover’s - and South Park, A bounty was put on 2 pac and Night. Mr. Writh Jr. gave Info where 2 pac was going to be. There was 6 different barricades that no matter what would of happened no one would of made it out. I was the shooter that was told to take Night out. little half dead was the one that took 2 pac out. As for gun that was used, will be dropped off at the security booth at fox 11. please do not have stop or talk to one of my droppin off the gun.

Tell X-con how you whant it deliverd. I don’t whant to put it in a box cause I don’t whant you thinking it’s a bomb. If you need any other Info, give X-con a list so I can meet him were I feel I am in more control. If you would like, I can call you on a safe number and give you details of the clothing, cars, streets, and discribe any-thing you need to know to prove that I was there, the night 2 Pac tryed to escape, like a little pee-on bitch.

If we want this case solved I think the public needs to participate in getting to the bottom of the killings. I would invite anyone that has any documents that relate to the Tupac or Biggie killings to submit them to me and we can release them all on December 1st 2014 simultaneously in what what I am going to call Tupacileaks. LAPD withheld documents in the civil trial and started the leaking with this confession letter… let’s all get behind solving the case by putting together the dots and pouring through the documents. There are hundreds of public and private records – court cases, interviews, videotapes, and photographs. Let’s put them all in one place and release them on December 1st 2014. The blood of those murdered demand justice. Send your documents to: Tupacileaks@gmail.com.

Star of “Murder Rap” Now Fugitive

Read Russell Poole's final words on #Tupac & #Biggie murders

With 100K Warrant are a few bail bondsmen are on the hunt?

Duane Keith “Keefe D” Davis, who is known throughout the Tupac fan base as the man who was willing to sell out his dead nephew for a third strike proffer deal, and who was featured as the key star witness of Ex-LAPD Detective Greg Kading’s 2011 book “Murder Rap” is now a fugitive from justice and under a One Hundred Thousand Dollar ($100,000) Bench Warrant in Riverside County California.

Davis failed to appear at a hearing in the California Superior Court in May of 2014 for sentencing stemming from charges of Felony Possession of Marijuana for Sale and being a convicted felon in possession of a Colt 45 handgun when stopped by Law Enforcement.

An Electronic Warrant was issued at 9:45am , May 20, 2014 and Davis’ original bail of $25,000 ordered forfeited, which means that some Bail Bondsmen are going to be very interested in “Keefe’ D’s” whereabouts. Of course this $100,000 warrant will be far from the end of the criminal journey for Davis. Failing to keep ones promise to appear, especially in light of the nature of the appearance- when you are informed how long you will be going to prison for, or if you may ever see the free light of day again- speak volumes about Davis character.

And this time Davis will need to sell out some other member of his family- if anyone is really interested- to beat this rap. Of course as chronicled in the large print “Murder Rap,” Davis was a godsend and Rosetta Stone for former cop Kading and current LAPD Detective Daryn Dupree for claiming that his nephew killed Shakur and that he was present for the killing of Biggie Smalls. Nothing like throwing your own dead nephew under the bus to save your own skin.

Davis was on Kading’s “short list” for filling in the details and color that might add some legitimacy for an investigation that was in his own words “going nowhere.” Kading and Dupree were steering the mid 2000’s investigation toward the legendary story of Orlando Anderson killing Tupac for a million dollars, allegedly put up by rival Sean “Puffy” Combs. At one point this legend also included another rap rival, Christopher Wallace- himself a murder victim.

It wasn’t until that very public lead fell flat on its face that Kading and Dupree, unsuccessful in getting any other “named player” to talk to them, (including witnesses at the scene) knew they needed to get Davis in Kading’s words “in the box.” Under that leverage, they got Davis to talk.

It is to be noted that whatever story about his family member was told to Kading and Dupree, previous to that Davis had made the claim that Marion “Suge” Knight- recently shot at an LA Nightclub- was behind both the Shakur and Wallace shootings. That was Davis’ formal statement.

However as the years went by and the leads cooled down, Davis story changed to one that was magically congruent with Kading and Dupree’s version of events. Under a temporary immunity deal and plea bargain called a “proffer deal”, Davis told a “whale of a tale” to the LAPD’s finest and this time implicated Corey Edwards, a friend of Anderson’s, himself and Anderson (with others) in the shooting of Shakur September of 1996.

Darnell Brim was one of the leaders of the infamous Southside Crips, according to former Compton Police Detective Tim Brennan. Apparently Davis allegations of his nephew’s being a killer was hardly the first time Davis had accused someone of point a gun and firing with deadly intent. He accused Brim in the same way.
This is what Brim (who was himself shot) had to say about Duane Keith Davis:

“He's Baby Lane's uncle. He's part of the group that hangs on Burris, I'm not friends with him. He likes to talk a lot. He keeps stuff going; like hearsay stuff. Like when my homeboy Lee got killed he was saying that he saw what happened- including that he seen my car driving away from the shooting. He was saying that I was the guy who shot Lee.”

“When he found out that. I was locked down, he changed his story and said that it was someone who looked like me. He keeps a lot of stuff going- like girls do. I asked him about it when I got out of jail. He said something like, "you know what's going on, you don't like us and we don't like you, just keep it like that." I told him that that was no problem.

“I don't know if he's selling dope, I don't know his business. I don't know if he has a job. I don't think that Keefy D would shoot anybody and I don't know if he had anything to do with killing Biggie.”

Apparently, according to Brim, if Davis does not like you, you might be next for the accusation.

Which begs the question- with two strikes- Blaming Knight for a murder then recanting it, and then blaming Brim for Murder and recanting it- could Davis, under the right leverage or incentive- such as one like Kading put out to coax that statement- would Davis recant that one as well? Would it be three strikes?

For now, no one will know, because Davis has decided to “ride like the wind” and make himself unavailable to the California Judicial System. It doesn't appear that Davis will be making any subsequent interviews with the press when and if Kading's new documentary ever surfaces from the editing room.

When and if Davis ever does appear, we’ll see what story he comes up with next- but one thing is for sure, there is always a story!
