CERTIFIED RESULTS LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (LAUSD), BOARD DISTRICT 1 SPECIAL RUNOFF ELECTION

City Clerk Holly Wolcott announced today that the Certified Results for the August 12, 2014 LAUSD, Board District 1 Special Runoff Election have been released and are attached to this notice.  The Certified Results can also be viewed on the Office of the City Clerk - Election Division website athttp://clerk.lacity.org/Elections.

 

The Certified Results contain the final election results broken out by Vote-By-Mail and at-poll ballots.  They will now be submitted to the Los Angeles City Council which will declare the results of the LAUSD, Board District 1 Special Runoff Election.

The Office of the City Clerk - Election Division administers elections for the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Community College District. City of West Hollywood to Host Women’s Equality Day Celebration on Aug. 26

Event Will Recognize the 94^thAnniversary of the Certification

Of the 19^th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

 

 

The City of West Hollywood and the City's Women's Advisory Board will host a special celebration to recognize Women's Equality Day and the 94^th anniversary of the certification of the 19^th amendment to the United States Constitution.

The West Hollywood Women's Equality Day Celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood's City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room and Auto Court (located next to Jones Coffee) at West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Free validated parking will be available at the West Hollywood Park five-story public parking structure. The event is free and open to the public.

The celebration will include two special guest speakers:

1)      Keltie Knight — Knight is a television correspondent and weekend host of CBS's The Insiderand is an inspirational social media influencer, whose popular blog has more than nine-million viewers monthly; and

2)      Elizabeth Ralston — Ralston is the president of the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles, which was started after women won the right to vote and has helped millions of women and men become informed participants in government.

In addition, there will be a theatrical performance from She's History by CulturalHerstorian Amy Simon, video shorts, a photo wall, voter information, and raffle prizes from local businesses with proceeds to benefit the West Hollywood Youth Scholarship Fund. There will be a reception to follow.

Women's Equality Day was first designated by a joint resolution of the United States Congress in 1971, following legislation introduced by Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY). Women in the United States were granted the right to vote on August 26, 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified as law. According to the National Women's History Project, the observance of Women's Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women's continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women's Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, and other activities.

The West Hollywood Women's Equality Day Celebration is hosted by the City of West Hollywood and the City's Women's Advisory Board. Co-sponsors include: Feminist Majority Foundation, Ms. Magazine, the National Women's History Museum, Pink51, National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles, League of Women Voters of Los Angeles, Hollywood NOW, and the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives.

The City of West Hollywood's Women's Advisory Board (WAB) was created on December 7, 1992 and advises the West Hollywood City Council on policies and other issues pertaining to women, advocates on behalf of women's rights, and provides programming addressing women's concerns.

CHINESE AMERICAN CITIZENS ALLIANCE, L.A. BRANCH, ENDORSE PRANG FOR ASSESSOR

Chinese American Citizens Alliance (CACA): Los Angeles Lodge is one of the oldest chapters, founded in 1912, located in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The membership of CACA has unanimously endorsed Jeffrey Prang for Los Angeles County Assessor. Mr. Prang, a Councilmember and four-time Mayor of West Hollywood, won the Primary Election on June 3rd and is seeking final confirmation by way of the November 4th General Election.

Jeff Prang has played a pivotal role in the stabilization and reform of the Assessor's Office in the wake of the scandal that shook the Office when Assessor John Noguez was indicted on corruption charges. In 2012, Mr. Prang orchestrated Noguez' exit from the Office, and facilitated the appointment of a reform administrator by the Board of Supervisors. As a key member of the reform administration, Prang played a crucial role in implementing reforms, including a ban on campaign contributions to Assessor candidates from tax agents who do business with the Office, and from Assessor employees, and implementing fiscal and management audits.

Former County Assessors Rick Auerbach and Kenneth P. Hahn have endorsed Mr. Prang.
